MNRL '98 CART Mid-Ohio IRR #2 Review
Involved Drivers: J. Hamilton, M. Rossi
Timestamp: 46.16
Incident: M. Rossi comes up on J. Hamilton with an excessive amount of speed and runs into the back of him, forcing Hamilton to go off and lose track position.
Penalty: DT to Rossi for avoidable contact.
.
MNRL CART Mid-Ohio IRR #3 Review
Involved Drivers: M. Rossi, J. Whited
Timestamps: 49:50, 50.33
Incident: Aggressive passing attempts both with avoidable contacts and second one resulting in lead change by squeezing the leader into apex.
Penalty: DT to M. Rossi for avoidable contacts and passing with squeeze and not leaving racing room to leader.
Important Note: RRC decided to give M. Rossi a 3-race probation due to excessive avoidable contacts in just one race, resulting in S&G, DT and DT. Plus another DT pending from 2 races back.
M. Rossi needs to serve S&H 75 seconds to clear penalties.
Chief Steward's Decision and Comments: M. Rossi has performed too many passes in recent races with avoidable contacts resulting in multiple IRR submissions from drivers. Although only one of these resulted in a big crash and that could've been acceptable,
the frequency of contacts requires additional attention from stewards. M. Rossi will be on a 3 race probation period, during which stewards will be reviewing his on-track actions and 'fair play'. Any further penalty requiring avoidable contact during this period will result in
1-race ban.
M. Rossi's combined S&H penalty time is 75 seconds (S&G+DT+DT+DT) and he already has a Stern Warning for delaying in penalty serving from last race. Failure to serve this penalty on his next race will result in DSQ from the race.
I recommend Rossi to be more careful in his race craft when in traffic and passing competitors. It is very important to pay attention to CMS "Passing & On Track Behavior" rules.
