MNRL Ford vs Ferrari Hockenheim IRR #1 Review
Involved Drivers: Gilles Lalonde, Martin Rossi
Timestamp: 47:09 & 47:34
Incident 1: Lalonde is in front at corner approach (Bremskurve) and has the right side of the track, and he can not move all the way to left because Rossi is too close. There is still almost a car length gap between the two and Lalonde starts moving to middle and further to left to get a better angle for the entry, and Rossi responds by moving to left also leaving room for Lalonde. At the end (just before, or about to turn) Rossi moves towards right as if Lalonde is not there disregarding Lalonde's move of trapping him to outside! Lalonde did give him 1 car-width gap on the outside, only just, but the room was there. Rossi had to wait and start turning depending on what room was available to him. Contact was light but Rossi could not make the corner because of it. Can not blame Lalonde in this incident but we would've prefer a little bit more room left for Rossi in this occasion because there was a small overlap between two cars.
Decision: RI

Incident 2: This one is more clear-cut as far as their positions go. Both are side by side going into Ostkurve. Again Lalonde is on the inside for that corner approach and takes the middle. It is possible Rossi thinks he has the right to corner since he seems ahead of the two, but we could confirm Lalonde's front tire was still lining up with Rossi's head at turn in point. Rossi again starts turning like Lalonde is not there (47:34)! He does not want to compromise his trajectory towards the apex, which is the preferred line, but of course Lalonde also being on the inside has to have a wider attack angle -again- for the corner, so he waits a little more than Rossi to start turning in. So in essence the driver who is changing his line slightly to get a better shot at the corner (space between two cars permitting) is also running the risk of causing the incident, and will always carry some responsibility.
