Ok, I'll admit, Norm used to laugh at me when the MNRL would come up with a new mod for rF(1) and I screwed up installing it. It seems I'm no more knowledgeable now, with rF2, than I was way back then, but I've gotten more persistent the more I've aged. I figure there's probably some folks that like racing with the MNRL that are as dense as me when it comes to setting things up, etc, when it comes to a new sim, so I'm creating this thread.
Previously, I've run rF2 exactly twice, both times offline, once for the 1960's era open wheels, and the last at Portland. After loading in the VWSC files, and activating them (per Jerry's post in the main announcement of the series), I clicked on the rF2 icon. That put me into the same practice session (Portland) that I had run just to make sure the mod worked, and wouldn't let me change tracks/mod. If this happens to you, access via the Steam menu, click on rF2, and pick where you want to go from there. Choosing the car you want to run is easy enough. As far as the Buenos Aires track goes, you don't actually install it, but download it and then "subscribe." Since I had already configured my wheel, I ran a couple of laps using the default, which is what I'll be using until I get more comfortable. Apparently this race will be starting at dusk or dawn, so be forewarned about the visuals! Now, if you're an old fart like me, you'll see that race length and think, "No way I can race for 100 minutes!" Hah, right back at ya. But do show up, run some practice laps, q or not q, and try to make it beyond halfway. I'd hate to be the only one out there who is multiple laps down after just one pit stop! If you have problems post here. Surely someone will have an answer (and probably some who are having the same problems but haven't posted will also benefit).

The track is workshop content, You just subscribe and restart the sim and it will automatically download and install it. To subscribe to the track use the link in the pre-race post. You then log in and subscribe. Or if you forgot your log in you can use the steam app by going to rF2 in the library and clicking on the workshop tab, type the name of the track in the search. when it pops up, subscribe.
This what I did. I used the link to get the name of the track and then copied and pasted it in the workshop search via the app. That way I didn't need to figure out what my password is, lol. Saved time.
Race start time is 2:00PM in the sim.
As for the length, it really isn't all that bad when you consider that pit stops will give you a breather during the race (2x fuel). The pit crews are pretty slow.

Nice to know the race start time is 2p, Joe. Apparently my joining in at 8p gives me an 8p view, or I need to adjust the gamma on my card. The headlights sure aren't worth squat! I did finally figure out how to get the virtual mirrors to work ( for those who don't know, the numbers 3,4,and 5 change that configuration), but I could sure use some help from somebody as concerns the fact that I cannot see who the cars around me are, nor can I change pit strategy in-race. Better yet, if anyone can point the way to a manual, I'd really appreciate it.
btw, in rF1 the default keys for changing the display to the lower right were enter, and then use the arrows.

Unfortunately, no manual yet for rF2, Aaron.
With new UI the vehicle labels are [again unfortunately] missing right now. It's known issue and should be addressed fairly quickly by S397.
Pit strategy...you need to map buttons. LCD increase and LCD decrease...and LCD up and LCD down. It's the same as AMS (the mapping and the way it works)
Mirrors...hold shift while using the buttons mapped for seating position (fore/aft, etc) and this will move the mirrors if you need to reposition them.
Soon, the cars will be part of a Steam workshop. So rather than manual installation, one will be able to sub the steam workshop and that'll be that. Done. Will be the same for track pack for the tracks used in the series (a workshop to sub to rather than manual installation)
I'll find out if it's necessary to remove the manually installed cars/tracks and sub the workshops and give definitive answer on that later today (and will post links to the workshops as well)

Thanks, Jason -- that issue sure had me confused. I had even looked for quite a long time (successfully) for my rF1 manual, just to confirm what it had been (hey, never trust an aging memory!). And as concerns the names of the drivers on the vehicles, although handy during a race, I can live with the graph at the bottom. All I've got left to figure out now is the bit with everything being too dark no my screen, probably something that can be fixed in the graphics section or my card settings. Gonna tackle that one tonight :-)

There's a bunch of free, easy to use, 'monitor calibration' software out there, find one you're comfortable with and give it a shot. This is a good one, with many different test pages to allow for a lot of different calibration: www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/gamma_calibration.php

Some issues I've been having: POV - When I open the game it is set at 60. I change it to 27. Works fine. I quit game. When I restart the game it's back at 60. Everything else I changed stays at my setting. A solution?? Deleting Setups - I can't figure out how to delete a setup within the game. I highlight one, click delete, it says are you sure, I click delete again; it doesn't go away. If I load a setup and do the same thing it also does not get deleted. What am I doing wrong? FFB - I've had the FFB quit a couple times while I've been practicing online. It generally comes back when I hit the restore key but it makes racing no fun. This very rarely ever happens to my T500. Ideas?
Specs For Cars - Car Stat doesn't find any info for this cars. Is there anyplace to go to find things like tire/brake/oil temps or engine specs? I seem to recall being able to get some of this from the car files that can be opened with Notepad in the game. I haven't found any of those for these cars so far.

Jerry, POV: Go into your settings while in the main menus (before you go into game/garage) and change your FOV in display settings. When you change it while in a session it only changes for that particular car, and even that gets over ridden by your 'main' FOV setting after you escape out and come back. It should stay where you put it if you do it in the display settings (in main menu) Not sure about deleting setups...will have to take a look. Functionality might not be there atm, so could be something game related (ie, not on your end only..just have to wait for fix)...will look into it though. FFB: Does it quit out while your on track, or when you initially get in the car? I've had mine cut out a few times if I have the wheel turned as I load into the car, or if I give sudden input just as I hop into the car and try to leave pit lane...never when on track though. Maybe reduce ffb overall strength about 5% and see if it keeps happening. If it's happening just when you initially get in the car, try to assure your wheel is centered and there are no inputs being given just as you load in. Car stat: Do you have the little plugin for rF2 that is needed for car stat? Can you bring up stats of other cars in rF2 (not official cars, those are often closed off...just other mods, or cars in general, I mean) As for optimal temps and things like that, I'll look into that now as well.

Jerry, you should be able to delete replays in Windows via Steam/steamapps/common/rf2/user data/replays. I'll give it a try, because they sure do pile up if they are saved automatically as mine are. Have you got any idea how to see chat when you're not in the cockpit? If so, let me know!

Most rF2 cars I drive have default FFB that borders on overkill, unless your want an arm work out. The WSC 71 Lola Mk3b seemed kinda meek by comparison with just a few tweaks to game and wheel. I'll have to play with it more. I'm just wondering if there are more Real Feel type capabilities available in the game or not for car specific settings? I noticed there is a Plug-Ins interface screen in rF2 with a few Plug-Ins already loaded - apparently they can be toggled on/off with a click and a restart. Can the Real Feel from rF1 or AMS be used in rF2 for those cars that could use some special tweaking?

Jerry, you should be able to delete replays in Windows via Steam/steamapps/common/rf2/user data/replays. I'll give it a try, because they sure do pile up if they are saved automatically as mine are. Have you got any idea how to see chat when you're not in the cockpit? If so, let me know! Aaron, the to bring up the chat box when not in the car, look over to the top right corner when on any screen in the garage/menu area...there's a gear symbol icon, and another icon that looks like a book. Click that one, it'll open the chat box. And you're correct about deleting replays..they do indeed pile up quickly. rF2 > userdata > replays. But I think Jerry was talking about setups, and while in game. I haven't got around to looking into that one yet...but you can delete them from the game files by going into rF2 > userdata > your name > settings > track in question (and all your setups will be in the folder for whatever specific track the setup is from)

Can the Real Feel from rF1 or AMS be used in rF2 for those cars that could use some special tweaking? Like Joe said, you need to go into the 'customize' screen in showroom and there are ffb options to select from. In these cars there is "soft" (intended for logitech/thrustmaster type wheels), "medium" (for fanatec, or high end thrustmaster with fanatec equivalent capabilities), and "hard" (for DD wheels) Also, in the "calibrate" section in the controller settings, you can adjust overall strength of the forces, and can play with the ffb min force (which will tighten up the center if need be) For me (on Thrustmaster TS-PC) I use "medium" in the Lola. In my wheel profiler, overall force is always at 100%. In game, in the Lola, I'm at around 87% strength, and 3.0 ffb min, with a value of "4" smoothing. I am using the "medium" preset. AFAIK, you cannot do such things as the stuff you are asking about with realfeel, etc. Also, be careful activating any plugins, some of them will cause you issues in rF2 with these more recent builds of the game. There's a list of plugins that should NOT be used...let me see if I can find and link that here, just so everyone that might not have seen it can put eyes on it. ETA: Here it is: forum.studio-397.com/index.php?threads/plugins-you-should-stop-using.63452/

Regarding deleting Setups: You can't. They can't be deleted in game. I've tried twice to delete them from the game files. They disappear from the track settings folder. They show up in the recycle bin, but they are still in the game when started. And they are also back in the track settings folder. Creepy!
UPDATED - The setups remain deleted if you alt tab from within the game and then delete them from the game Track Settings Folder. It does not work from within the game. Deleting from the Track Settings Folder does not work if the game is off whether Steam is on or off.
Regarding FOV: It is correct in the overall game settings, but reverts back to the default setting of 60 in Setups. It does this online, but offline it does not go back to the default setting; it saves the FOV of your choice.

Make sure you player.JSON file's attributes are not set to read only

Ok, time for yet another question....I've downloaded the Daytona track for next week's race, but am not familiar with the rfcmp extension. I did some minor searching on the web, found one suggestion that stated that it could be unpacked via the rF2 install/tools file, but I can't seem to find that. I tried going into the workshop for rF2 but doing a search for Daytona didn't yield any correct results. Since there are 21 pages of things in that workshop, and also since I'm a bit pressed for time this week, what s the solution to getting this download to work in rF2?

Download it strait to your packages folder "Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\rFactor 2\Packages" . Then start rF2 and go to content look for the track and install. Just like the cars you downloaded for the series.

Since this is a "newb" forum at least as far as rF2 goes, I thought I'd share some info that Brette was good enough to clue me in on. I was running out of space on my C drive (where I had all my sims located) and wanted to transfer some or all to a different drive. I remembered that there were hidden files in rF1, and that Automobilista had several files scattered into the 'documents' folder, so before I experimented I asked Brette if he ever had to do this. Yup, and his solution was so incredibly simple. If you are in a similar situation, and don't know just exactly how to migrate sims to a different drive, click on this link and follow the instructions: www.howtogeek.com/269515/how-to-move-a-steam-game-to-another-drive-without-re-downloading-it/Hope this helps if someone else is in this situation (and wants room to subscribe to additional mods and tracks).
