rrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..... I was beyond disappointed in my race 1...for some reason my car gridded in reverse gear, and I couldn't get it into a forward gear (since I never did map out the individual gears, relying solely on the paddles). Hit esc, drove out of the pits to try to join the field, and got a DQ. rrrrrrrrr, again. I watched some fun battles on track, and then exited because I knew there was a possibility that I could wind up starting on the front row with the same problem, somehow, which would have made for a real mess. I wish I had powered down completely, hit the practice session of the next race to check out that possibility, but I didn't think of it until it was too late.
I really wanted to finish both of the last two races of the season, for many reasons, but I'm at least glad that I wasn't a problem in either race. The cars were a hoot to drive, and they reminded me of times when Norm was competing with us. Thanks for putting on this series.
Ah, but I still get to watch the replays! That's a damned good consolation prize.

Two things here. Uhhh Joe ? I don't see it... I'm third in the series because I marked my points before Jason. Martin marked his points before you... Same for fifth place... Sorry Brette... LoL! Or do you count attendance ? And for this last event. I had no stamina. I could do a fast lap yes but 10 minutes in, I would seriously be thinking about pulling the plug and crashing to bed. I was putting wheels off every other lap. Which brought me up front for the second race. I took off and was happy to let Jason deal with Jerry. I got a good gap and I was really concentrating to stay on the black stuff. Jason was creeping up but the race was almost over. Then, from the shelving behind me, a book fell off, caught a chair and landed in the corner where the glass bottles recycling bin is. Even with my headphones on, I heard it. I was sure there was somebody in my place ... with my heart stopped I turned around in my chair and looked every where... I sit low on my "racing" chair and my new tall and comfy gaming chair, which I push out of the room, was just outside the door in the hallway, it had my jacket on top so in the dark, at first glance, looked like a guy with no head... I hollered but figured it out in the same instant. I looked back forward and there was just grass in front... I dropped from 1st to 3rd and went off again to finish 4th. The discussion after the race was short and 10 minutes later...zzzZZZzzzZZZzzz... Now trucks ? Why not ! When ?

Hah, Gilles! I thought I was the only person who had nights like that! That's TOO funny about the book just happening to bounce in the correct angle to scatter and shatter the bottles; and then to see the headless chairman and be distracted enough to forget everything else at that moment is absolutely hilarious. Thanks for the gut laugh, my friend.
I can't remember who it was, since it was a number of years ago, but someone who was racing with the MNRL (perhaps Peter?) was running well in a race when his cat decided to jump up on the desk and sit down on his keyboard, hitting numerous keys. And I have had a number of occasions when I was concentrating so hard on a race that I didn't notice that my wife had come into the room and when I got that "someone is in the room" feeling was startled enough that I ran off track. And once, before I joined with the MNRL, I was leading a road course during the last several laps in a truck with a crowded field of oval racers and the darned screen went blank. The cord had fallen out of the monitor!
I'm sure now that everyone here has had something similar to these stories happen to them, and I'd love to read them. A laugh shared is a laugh remembered, right? So thanks again, Gilles.

btw, I just noticed that someone (certainly not me) had changed my status from "senior member" to "God." This was not me who did this, and if someone can tell me how to change my status back ( I cannot find it in the profile settings) I'd appreciate it. I figure if I'm a god, the world is in serious trouble, but I sure as heck am a senior, an old fart.

You're Welcome Aaron.
Pretty sure it's automatic. Probably when you surpassed 150 post.
BTW, I answered your PM... you should be good for a while.

Ah, perhaps whoever decided upon the ranking names based on the number of posts didn't pick exactly a good ranking system.... "God" implies many things, and even if you take it to mean "racing god," determining that ranking based solely upon the number of posts is simplifying racing too much for my tastes. We all know who the real world racing gods are, and also those that we've raced online that could fit that description (although usually called "aliens"). I fit in neither category, and will have to ignore that rating (or post less frequently) just to keep my self respect. I'd love to be demoted to "old fart." Btw, Gilles, congrats on your newly acquired "senior" status...guess I'll have to race you harder now! grin

Doh.. that must have been ironical considering your desire to be there and finish. I had something similar happen after a PC crash and rush to get back in for the next race. Luckily enough I got in the next session early and went out on track to see if everything was fine. That was when I discovered I could not get out of first gear and escaped to the pits to bring up a properly configured controller mapping file before the race.

Probably the weirdest was having the monitor go blank due to video cord dropping out of the monitor also. I could hear the car and was able to steer it off track and to bring it to a stop without major damage before determining what had happened. Got back under way with loss of only a few positions since it was late in the race. Another time I was racing you guys at Spa when the Router power went off due to someone else tripping the breaker on that circuit and my screen went to desktop. It was a big let down since I was enjoying the race at the time. Someone else got a talking' to.. if you know what I mean.

Grats to Jason on well deserved wins here at VIR and to Joe for keeping him honest. Thanks to Joe for running the series and such good data integrity to the end! And thanks to all for showing up to rub wheels once in a while. I will miss cars like this and the Caterham. But at least it they exist in other sims like AMS2 and rF2, IIRC. This wasn't my best showing here. But it is always fun trying in this car. I kept spinning out at the uphill transition and we are pretty well matched as a group.. so big gaps built up. One time I ended up in Peter's path there and had to slow down for a while to let him catch up. We played some mistake tag for a while and he ended up having more long term offs than myself. I think that Jerry had the best showing in a while. He looked well dialed in and consistent. I take my hat off to others with the same or more determination than my own to improve!
I had been at VIR track recently for the 2021 IMSA Sunday races. I missed the GT3s and such on Saturday due to bad weather. But the prototypes ran Sunday morning, the 911.. 991 and 992 Cup Cars ran at lunch and then the GT4s and TCRs ran together after lunch. The Prototypes are the fastest and loudest on an individual car level. But the Porsche Cup race is the loudest overall because there are so many cars and they really run closely together. I'll see if I can crop some images down for insertion here.
In the meantime I will try to insert an image I took in 2017 of the K-Hill Motorsports #116 spec racer exiting the downhill chicane (VIRs corkscrew) below for an MCR realism comparison.

Looking forward to seeing the images, Brette.
Btw, I've been demoted from godly status to old fart status, thanks to some wizardry of Joe's. Thank you, sir. Gilles, you were correct that it is based on the number of posts, and I was about to go back on the topics and delete a hundred posts when I saw Joe's message that he'd try to demote me, and then saw that my status had changed. I think that this linking of the NUMBER of posts to status is just wrong. As for me, I'd much rather strive for an extra "O," hoping to attain "good" status," because it's much more realistic -- but not based on the number of posts!

This was definitely my best race of the season. I like VIR but usually find it difficult to be consistent there. So I put in a lot of practice laps trying to get speed and a predictable handling car in every place on the track.
RACE 1 Started P6. Pete got past at the start and I was chasing Brette. On lap 2 I got around him and saw Pete off track and found myself in P-4. Brette was on my butt with Gilles hounding him. Over the next 11 laps they swapped places numerous times but I always knew one of them wasn’t far behind. By lap 13 I got a little separation and managed to finish P-4.
RACE 2 Started P4. Got past Peter and Brette in the early turns and went after Gilles in the lead up ahead. Pete was behind me and I hoped he would hold off the field. I caught Gilles on lap 4 and managed to get past. It was fun running in the lead even if it only lasted for 3 laps.
When Gilles re-gained the lead Jason appeared in the rearview. I made my one and only mistake on lap 8, went off track, and watched Jason take over P-2. On lap 10 Gilles went off and I regained P-2. I could see Jason ahead and pushed to catch him or take advantage of a mistake. On lap 16 Joe came roaring from behind and put me in P-3. And that’s where I finished.
I thoroughly enjoyed both runs. Lots of good racing. A nice way to conclude the series.
Congrats to all intrepid drivers taking the green. Thanks for the fun gents. Special thanks to the admins for all their effort.
Now I get to build my new PC after four months struggling to get overpriced parts. It will be better than my current one but not with as much performance as I wanted.

Now I get to build my new PC after four months struggling to get overpriced parts. It will be better than my current one but not with as much performance as I wanted..... > Grats on the great drive Jerry! I am in a similar circumstance regarding preparing to build a new PC. Except, I started buying parts about a year ago and was hoping to have it built by February of 2021. Just got my last parts a few weeks ago and have more time to dig in now. My spec. was focused around being able to drive a 34" UWA 1440P Monitor in some of my favorite sims at 144Hz or better, as long as the sim is not too complex or ill optimized for those sims. I may have to dial back the details a little for the likes of MS FS 2020, but should still have a glorious experience compared to my 2012 Sandy Bridge PC and 2011 1080P 60hz monitor. I am still waiting on VR headsets to give a good FoV at 90+ FPS without needing a 3090. Things are looking better for some tech, but still no one is providing the wider FoV and great contrast without some other ill affects and need for a small fortune to get set up.

OK, so I will experiment with inserting some images from the IMSA prototype race at VIR before doing so with the GT4 and TCR images. I was eating lunch while the Porsche Cup guys were racing. So the only pics are of them lining up to do post race inspection in the paddock. There should be one of a prototype doing the same thing. IMSA is just trying to make sure everyone was playing fair and did not operate outside the rules!
Looks like there is a 1MB file size and 3 file limitation. Will dial back accordingly.

Below are some GT4 and TCR pics. The Pit Lane image shows how many cars were in the class. That shot was taken from the end of the track side balcony of the garage suites next to the pit lane. They were lined up that way to let all ticket holders walk the field close up in the pits before the race (carry over practice from the ALMS days). The other two shots were taken in that last downhill sector.

I'm headed the same way you are. Love flight/race sims. Can't wait to get FS2020. And planning to use VR (my son has been playing with VR the last couple of years and, boy, is it amazing in FS2020 and race sims). I'm moving up to Win10. Got an i9-10900k cpu and an RTX 3060 12GB XC. I've had an LG 34" curved DP 3440x1440 @ 1440Hz monitor for about five months I really like. I'm hoping to get it together in the next four weeks.
