Weird. I was practicing online Monday night when Windows decided to update (despite the fact that I have updates configured to be OFF after 8p). This update took up the right half of my screen, so I had to exit. Once the update had downloaded and started to configure everything, I went offline, and let it do it's thing.
Loaded the sim for the race, and got the message that Windows was loading in the driver for the G29, went online, and could not get the car to stop redlining immediately upon shifting into any gear higher than 2nd. Happened offline, too, no matter what setup I used (and, yes, I was using auto clutch and had configured the wheel).
It gets stranger. The wheel works perfectly in Assetto Corsa Comp and rF1, AND on the several mods I tried it on in Automobilista except the Porsche 911 and the F1 95. I did reload the engines and the max opponents, which did not fix the problem.
Got any ideas on what the problem might be? I have plenty of time before the next race to delete the Logitech program and re-install, and can do the same with Automobilista (I have a backup from a year ago for that), but if someone has a short fix, I'd love to read it!

update: just as I was turning off the computer, another MS update installed. Rebooted, and all is fine now! Darndest thing I ever saw. I read that Luis had a bit of a problem with his G29, but it self-healed as well. Perhaps the update came in two parts, and the driver for the G29 was in the second part? (remember, I went online to race last night after 8p, so that update should not have downloaded last night).

Yeah, that is weird.
But, glad it's working ok now.
Personally, just to be sure, I'd do two things...I'd uninstall and reinstall my wheel drivers (using the drivers from the logitech site for your particular wheel)
Then I'd run a Steam file integrity check on AMS, because it can't hurt, and because that can "heal" weird things at times. Also, clear your steam downloads cache (probably nothing to do with this, but while in steam, just do it. It's some kind of voodoo, but that too can often heal 'weird things')
Windows update should not install, reinstall, uninstall your wheel drivers (but, often times after big updates, I find my drivers "lost" as well..have to uninstall and reinstall...but, I have found that simply unplugging the wheel and plugging it back in, and a restart, can sometimes 'find' the drivers without the need for reinstall) Either way, a big PITA, especially when an issue hits just prior to a race. ...bummer.

That is very weird, but happy all is working again. To bad you had to miss last nights race though. It was fun.

Some really tight multi-car battles, but I escaped to begin working on the wheel problem (which involved making a backup of Automobilista first...). Can't wait to watch the replay!

I'll give the Steam suggestions a go, Jason --- thanks. Long ago I started the habit of going online for the next race a day or two just to avoid surprises (screwed up or forgotten installs, etc), and this is the first time in a long time that I got burned the night of a race. Along the lines of your "voodoo" comment, after following your Steam suggestions, I just might get out my old djembe and try a little exorcism, so if you hear strange rhythms and oddly punctuated gutteral sounds coming from your NNW, you'll know the reason :-)
