Congrats to Joe for two wins in one night! (but, Joe, you've got the wrong mod senior standings posted). I couldn't get the rhythm of this track all night -- a fraction of a second late on braking, and that turn (and next few) were botched. But I had a ton of fun racing Gilles, Jerry, Bill, Pete, Bob, all of whom were faster than I was. And that last lap of the second race was something else again for the "also-rans!" Let's finish that close again in 2 weeks :-)

For once I managed to find a very competitive setup and I was looking forward to good results. I was even starting to believe that I had finally figured out Porsches. RACE 1 During the early laps I was carefully working my way up the field. Then, for some reason, the car turned evil. It started flinging its rear all over the place, dragging me off track. I spent the rest of the race tip-toeing around the track just trying to finish; ending up in P9. RACE 2 Madly made some changes that I tried out during the warmup. Sitting in the starting box I crossed my fingers that the Texaco car would behave itself. During the first half of the race things were looking up. With about four laps to go I was running in P3 with a nice cushion on the car behind. All I had to do was stay smooth and consistent for a podium finish. But no....the stupid car went back to its high-jinks dropping me into P7. Crap! I have no clue what caused the car's handling to go berserk during each race. Obviously, the change I made after the first race didn't solve the problem. The setup I ran never did that during practice and I thought I had a pretty stable setup. Boy, was I fooled.
Congratulations to all intrepid drivers taking the green flags. Special thanks to Aaron for trying to help me get past. Always fun to run with you.

Thanks Aaron. Both races were a challenge. In the first race I spent 3/4 of it trying to catch up to Jason. Once I caught up I had to find a way around. I finally got by in turn one and then almost lost it a few corners later. I think Jason was being nice to let me stay in front when I drove up on the curb and spun my tires up to the red line in second gear. I shifted into 3rd and bogged the car, I thought Jason was going to pass at that point. After that I just concentrated on not making mistakes. Race two was really interesting for the first 7 laps. There was a bit of a pileup in turn one at the beginning that Jason and I somehow managed to avoid. We spent a few laps catching up to Tyler and then then a few more trying to find a way around him. After a couple more laps of that, I saw Brette catching up to us so I decided to try bump drafting Jason so he could get a run around Tyler on the final stretch. It worked Jason got around but as he was going into turn one Tyler and Jason got together and gave me the lead. After that I had a big gap and spent the rest of the race by myself just racing the track. Thanks to everyone for coming to the races. See y'all at the next one.

Well Jerry, you were looking pretty quick up until the point where your car went south on you. The main thing that could be causing these changes are tire wear and weight balance as the fuel burns off. I noticed several of us have obviously pushy car setups if you watch our cars (wheel angle versus actual turn in) in the race replay. And it gets worse after we drive a few laps at speed pushing the limits. This implies we are relying too much on fresh tire grip that degrades too quickly. Jason and Joe have proved that one can find a decent balance (at least workable) through setup tweaks and driving technique. I don't think I am quite where they are. But I did get a more responsive car by playing with the balance of the car to get it to rotate easier and still be stable and predictable to my liking. It also helps to adjust your driving accordingly as the tires and weight change. But the car should not get that evil in a 20 min. sprint. You might want to test any major changes at least 15 mins. straight to see how stable they are.
As for me, I was able to at least stay in the hunt in both races. Had some close racing with Tyler in Race 1 as J&J checked out. And got lucky slipping by Jason and Tyler when they tangled in Race 2. Just tried to keep the orange dot in view at that point.
Grats to all finishers! Hope to see Matt, Bob and some other previous drivers return in the next round.
