So, I like this track. A lot. However, after our event this week I’m not friends with the T-5 corner.
RACE 1 Qualified P6 and was anticipating a really fun race. The first lap went smoothly. On the second lap, braking for the T-5 corner, I noted that the two cars in front got in too deep and were going wide. I set up to go past both on the inside. As I was exiting the corner one of the cars slid from off track and slammed into my right side. The #20 took a pretty good hit but I was able to keep headed in the right direction.
The rest of the race I chased Junior, with Holm not far up ahead. Both ran clean, lap after lap, and that’s the way we finished; me in P5. Maybe, without the hit, I could have made up more ground.
RACE 2 For the second Camero race in a row I found myself on the pole. The first couple corners went well and I was in P2 as we went zooming down the Moraine Straight to T-5. Once again this dang corner insisted on screwing my race up. This time side by side contact bumped me off track and into the wall. I dropped to P5 and chased after Mr. Holm but the damage had definitely slowed the car.
On lap 5 Messrs. Miller and Brooks got past. On lap 8 Brette did a 180 degree turn in a 90 degree corner and ran off track. Joe was mostly out of sight by then so the rest the race became a Sunday Drive in P5. Maybe next race I can bring the car back without injury.
Congrats to all intrepid drivers taking the green flags.
