Since I finished the race, something I’ve had problems with this series, I’ll call it a good race. I like the track even though a couple corners had it out for me.
Qualified 9th but ran the parade lap in 10th because I couldn’t remember what place I was supposed to start from. Got back into P-9 on the first lap and was chasing Mr. Overton into the last corner. He did an amazing sideways slide cornering technique that I tried to emulate. Matthew stayed on track but I ran off into the dirt.
After I got back on track I made some progress and caught up to Mr. Hopkins, who was in P-8, on the third lap. I passed Bruce on the first part of the back straight and saw that I was catching another Lola. Mr. Miller had an altercation with the previous corners that slowed him up. Going into the last corners I thought there was room on the inside to pass. I dropped the right side wheels off track and then slid into Joe, who was giving me room. The contact sent both of us off track. He went into the air and landed on his wheels and was able to get back on track (Big apologies for the contact Joe. There was no need for a risky pass that early in the race).
I ended up upside down. Thanks to some spectators who pushed me right side up I was also able to get back on track in last place. The car had substantial damage but still handled well, although a little slower. On the first pit stop I just refueled and went back out. I added a couple more nicks so on the next pit stop I had all the damage fixed.
On the 4th pit stop I misjudged the fuel I needed to finish and had to do another stop and splash. Passed the checkered flag in P-7. Gotta do a better job of taking care of the dang car.
Congrats to all intrepid drivers taking the green flag.
